Post-Publication Discussion
Purpose
Advances in Tropical Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences (ATBES) encourages open scientific dialogue and constructive engagement with published research. Post-publication discussion provides a platform for clarifying, critiquing, extending, or confirming findings after an article has appeared. This process supports transparency, reproducibility, and continuous improvement of knowledge in tropical biodiversity and environmental sciences.
Forms of Post-Publication Engagement
| Type | Description & Scope |
|---|---|
| Reader Comment | Short, focused observation, clarification, or supplementary information regarding a published article. Should be factual, respectful, and directly relevant to the work. |
| Technical Comment | Addresses methodological, analytical, or interpretative aspects of the research. May include alternative analysis, additional data, or confirmation of results through independent replication. |
| Author Response | Formal reply from the original authors addressing comments, clarifying points, or acknowledging corrections. Responses are published alongside the comment when applicable. |
| Follow-Up Study | New research that builds upon, extends, or tests findings from the published work. Submitted as a regular article with clear reference to the original publication. |
Submission Guidelines
- Discussions must be submitted within 24 months of the article’s publication date; later submissions will be considered only if they address significant new information or concerns affecting conclusions.
- Include the full citation and DOI of the article being discussed.
- Comments should be concise — typically 500–1,500 words — with essential references.
- All submissions undergo editorial review and may be sent to the original authors for information or response.
- Comments must be respectful, evidence-based, and free from personal criticism or unsubstantiated claims.
- The original authors will normally be invited to respond within 30 days; lack of response does not prevent publication of a comment.
Review & Publication
- Post-publication discussions are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor;
- Accepted comments and author responses are published together under a distinct section heading;
- They are indexed, citable, and assigned DOIs where appropriate;
- Publication does not imply endorsement beyond the original article’s statement;
- Comments that are purely critical without substantive evidence, or that are offensive, will not be accepted.
