Correction and Retraction Policy

Purpose

This policy ensures that errors or concerns affecting published work are addressed promptly, transparently, and consistently. ATBES is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record while fairness toward authors and readers alike.

Types of Notices

Notice Type Trigger Condition Effect
Correction Minor error, omission, or inaccuracy that does not affect the overall validity, conclusions, or integrity of the work. Published prominently and linked to the original article. The article remains unchanged; the correction clarifies or amends the record.
Expression of Concern Unresolved questions about data, methods, or conduct that may impact reliability; investigation in progress. Published promptly to alert readers. Does not constitute a finding of misconduct; updated or replaced once investigation concludes.
Retraction Findings are unreliable due to error or misconduct; plagiarism; duplicate publication; unethical research; or author(s) unable to uphold publishing standards. Article is marked as retracted; remains accessible online with a clear retraction notice. Should not be cited as valid research.
Withdrawal Requested by authors before publication or in exceptional cases after publication when no third party has relied on the work. Removed or marked withdrawn; note explains the basis.

Submission & Process

  • Authors or readers who identify an error or concern should contact the Editor-in-Chief promptly at atbes@unud.ac.id with full details and supporting evidence.
  • For author-initiated corrections: all co-authors must approve the request in writing.
  • When concerns are raised: the journal will investigate, give authors opportunity to respond within a set timeframe, and consult independent experts as needed.
  • Decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the Editorial Board where appropriate.

Principles

  • Timeliness: Notices are issued as soon as the issue is confirmed and resolved.
  • Transparency: Notices clearly state the reason, who initiated the action, and what changes apply.
  • Linking: All notices are linked to and from the original article; metadata is updated accordingly.
  • Preservation: Retracted articles are not removed from the archive unless legally required; they carry persistent labelling.
  • Notification: Relevant institutions, funders, or publishers may be notified in cases of confirmed misconduct.

Author Responsibilities

  • Authors must notify the journal immediately upon discovering significant errors in their published work.
  • Cooperation with investigations is expected; failure to respond may result in unilateral action by the journal.
  • Corrections should not be used to add new material or change results beyond fixing the specific error identified.

Appeal

Authors who disagree with a decision may submit a written appeal to the Editor-in-Chief within 14 days of notification. The appeal must provide evidence and reasoning. The Editorial Board’s review is final.
