KULINER RITUAL DALAM GAMA PATEMON RAJAPURANA BATUR

Abstract

This article explores the ritual culinary heritage contained in the Gama Patemon manuscript, one of the Rajapurana Pura Ulun Danu Batur. The primary data were obtained from the digitization of the Gama Patemon Rajapurana Batur palm-leaf manuscript, a project carried out in 2024 through a collaboration between the Unit Lontar Universitas Udayana and the administrators of Pura Ulun Danu Batur, Kintamani, Bangli. The primary data are further supported by transliterations of the Gama Patemon Rajapurana Batur manuscript held at the Bali Museum, Gedong Kirtya–Singaraja, and the Bali Cultural Documentation Center in Denpasar. The material was analyzed using a gastrocritism approach, with particular emphasis on interpreting the discourse of ritual cuisine found within the text. The study reveals that Gama Patemon narrates a variety of ritual foods imbued with cultural and ecological significance. Ritual cuisine signifies the richness of Bali’s biodiversity, while also serving as an indicator of ecological resilience, offering a reflection of Bali’s current ecological condition.
