PENGEMBANGAN PROGRAM EDUKASI INTERAKTIF DAN KEGIATAN INOVATIF DI MUSEUM SEJARAH PURBAKALA PLERET BANTUL, YOGYAKARTA

Abstract

This research focuses on the implementation of educational and innovative creativity, both regarding exhibition arrangements and activities at the Purbakala History Museum Pleret Bantul, Yogyakarta. This museum area has been designated by the Yogyakarta Special Region as a cultural heritage area, which was inaugurated in 2014, occupying the former palace of Sultan Agung who led the Islamic Mataram Kingdom in the 15th century. In current conditions, museums are generally less attractive to the public, especially teenagers. This is a problem because the role of museums which should be as learning centers for interactive public education has not been realized. This research aims to identify appropriate innovative strategies in exhibition layout and development of interactive educational programs that can increase visitor participation, especially for young people. The benefits of this research can contribute to museum managers and the government so that they can attract the interest of visitors to the museum. The research method used is qualitative, which is delivered descriptively-narratively. The results of this research to map and classify the development of museums on a scale of priority, so that museums can play an active role as relevant and dynamic centers of public education.
