WACANA DALAM ŚIWĀGAMA ANTARA SIWAISME DAN GEJALA KEBANGKITAN BRAHMANISME DI BALI

Abstract

By its title, Śiwāgama can undoubtedly be categorised as containing discourse of Śaivism. However, when referring to its use of language, Śiwāgama indicates other discourses that can then be viewed as socio-religious phenomena in Bali. This article discusses the use of language in Śiwāgama as a discourse phenomenon. The discussion is carried out descriptively- interpretatively and comparatively from the perspective of discourse analysis with a hermeneutic approach. Having analysed the text, Śiwāgama is a Śaivistic text because it contains discourse that indeed favours Śiwa adherents or followers over Buddhist adherents, but in terms of language use, it indicates a socio-religious “resurgence” of Brahmanism in Bali. Thus, although not explicitly mentioned, Śiwāgama actually shows the nature of Vaidika through its use of language or the rediscovery of traditional paths originating from the Vedas, albeit within the scope of Śaivism.
