Abstract

The banking industry is facing significant pressure due to digital disruption driven by advancements in financial technology, changing customer preferences, and growing expectations for fast, personalized, and digital-based services. This article aims to explore the dynamics of digital transformation in conventional banks in Indonesia, focusing on the opportunities, challenges, and adaptive strategies implemented. The method used is a systematic literature review of scholarly articles, industry reports, and publications from international research institutions covering the period from 2018 to 2024. The findings reveal that banking digitalization not only involves the adoption of technologies, but also requires fundamental changes in business models, organizational structures, work culture, and regulatory that support innovation. Banks and fintechs collaboration is identified as a key strategy in expanding financial inclusion and enhancing competitiveness. Major challenges include reliance, internal cultural resistance, and data security risks. This study also highlights the importance of data security and privacy as key pillars in building a healthy digital ecosystem. The findings offer both conceptual and practical contributions for academics, industry players, and policymakers, and the need for research to quantitatively and qualitatively measure the impact of digital transformation.
