Abstract

The growing demand for infrastructure development—particularly regarding the application of hardscape concepts within green infrastructure—necessitates innovation in the selection of eco-friendly construction materials. Hardscape refers to the non-vegetative elements of a landscape, such as walkways, paving blocks, and aesthetic features, which play a crucial role in creating sustainable open spaces. A key challenge in implementing green infrastructure is the use of materials with a low carbon footprint. Test results conducted in accordance with the SNI 1969:2016 standard revealed that "sanggah" (traditional shrine) waste stone aggregate (size 1–2) had an average specific gravity of 1.914 and an absorption rate of 8.128%, whereas Karangasem aggregate (size 1–2) showed an average specific gravity of 2.567 and an absorption rate of 2.094%. This study aims to demonstrate the viability of using "sanggah" waste stone aggregate as a substitute material in green infrastructure applications—such as rainwater management optimization, urban heat island mitigation, and the filtration layers of rooftop gardens. A quantitative research method with an experimental approach was employed to analyze the samples; primary data derived from laboratory testing underwent descriptive processing. The use of materials characterized by low specific gravity (lightweight) and high absorption (porous nature) is fundamental to green infrastructure efficiency, as this combination offers significant technical and ecological advantages in both rainwater management and construction
