HEMORRHAGIC GASTRITIS IN GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG

Gastritis is an inflammatory condition of the stomach. Gastritis is caused by the erosion of the gastric epithelium and mucosa so that stomach acid injures the stomach wall. This case study aims to determine the incidence of gastritis in a two-year-old male German Shepherd dog weighing 21 kg. Based on the anamnesis, the dog experienced vomiting for one week, diarrhea and emaciation. Clinical examination of the dog felt pain when palpated the abdomen and pale mucosa, on routine hematological examination found leukocytosis, granulocytosis, and microcytic hypochromic anemia. Based on the examination of the case dog was diagnosed with hemorrhagic gastritis. The therapy is given in the form of an injection of a combination of antibiotics trimethoprim and sulfadoxine (Intertim ®) at a dose of 1 mL for 10-15 kg body weight, 1.2 mL intramuscularly, injection of vitamin K at a dose of 0.75 ml/5 kg body weight, 3 mL intramuscularly, Odansetron antiemetic injection with a recommended dose of 0.15 mg/kg body weight of 3 mL intramuscularly, and two tablets of worm medicine. Case dogs were prescribed Metronidazole 500 mg generic tablets with a recommended dose of 25 mg/kg body weight, one tablet twice a day orally, Odansetron 8 mg tablets with a recommended dose of 0.5 mg/kg body weight, one tablet once a day orally, and multivitamin B complex. one tablet once daily orally as supportive therapy. The dog's condition improved on the seventh day after therapy which was marked by no more vomiting
