Abstract

Gingivitis is defined as inflammation of the gingival tissue, generally a response to bacterial plaque. The purpose of writing this case is to find out how to diagnose, treat, and treat gingivitis in cats caused by dental plaque. The case of a domestic cat named Betty was a 5 year old female with a body weight of 2.5 kg, had hair of a mixed color of 3 colors with complaints of hypersalivation, protruding tongue that could not be inserted, bad breath, and inflammation of the gums (mucositis). Illness has occurred and recovered but experienced recurrence with the same symptoms until now. The results of the hematological examination showed lymphocytosis and physical examination in the mouth area found hypersalivation, on the mucosa and digestive system (mouth) which experienced swelling and inflammation of the gums, the left and right mandibular lymph nodes were abnormal, namely experiencing enlargement and discomfort when touched by the mouth area. The therapy given to animals with anti-inflammatory cases is the recommended dose of Dexamethasone 0.5 mg/kg BW in the form of tablets given every 24 hours once a day, for 5 days and Prednisone 5 mg/kg BW is given for 2-4 weeks, the dose is reduced slowly . Supportive therapy is given vitamin C. Animals experience positive changes and are advised to carry out routine scaling and replace dry food to treat dental plaque in cats. After giving therapy for a week and scaling the dental plaque, hypersalivation began to decrease and the ulcers on the mucosa began to shrink.
