Abstract

The incoming raw materials in tea industry are divided into leaf quality that is fit for processing (APLO)  and damaged ones which are analyzed based on company standards. A high percentage of APLO  indicates a good quality level of tea shoots. On the other hand, damaged raw materials also need to be  analyzed for the dominant type of damage and the cause of the damage. The aims of this study were (1)  to identify the type and number of product defects in orthodox black tea raw materials and to determine  the causes of defects in orthodox black tea raw materials at PT. Nusantara VIII Plantation Kertamanah  Plantation. The research method used is quality control analysis with the application of 2 types of tools  from 7 tools. Data were analyzed using (1) analysis tables (2) Pareto diagrams (3) bar charts (4)  fishbone diagrams. The results obtained are the APLO value of 54% (933 kg) and the type of damage  that is damaged by 5% (86 Kg), Weeds by 6% (104 kg), and total roughness of 35% (604 kg). The main  causes of the damage were improper method factors (the use of picking machines and improper handling  of raw materials) and human factors such as fatigue, negligence, and lack of discipline in implementing  SOPs.
